Outkast didn't even make the ballot last year, even though they were more deserving than all but 2 of those that were inducted last year.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3760137241594753268.post-62155820996367214012019-07-02T17:12:19.550-07:002019-07-02T17:12:19.550-07:00King Curtis as an artist did not get recognized. ...King Curtis as an artist did not get recognized. Only for his session work. I'd say that's a different story as well. But I didn't include him either. If they get nominated for the Performer category again, fine. But neither were on the 2012 list, so they're not on this one. Just Run...Plenty of his cohorts got in right away? Just Run-DMC, Public Enemy, and 2Pac. Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five and the Beastie Boys both needed three, and N.W.A. needed four. If Afrika Bambaataa and Eric B. And Rakim get nominated again, that'll be their 2nd. Hip-hop is not getting in easily, really.

Also, one big thing you seem to either be forgetting, or ignoring: commercial success matters. I make it perfectly clear with my system that commercial success plays a part in determining an artist's merit. Especially in the early days when a genre or style has to fight extra hard to achieve that commercial success. LL Cool J did it big, and he deserves induction for it.Philiphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08292012228944104037noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3760137241594753268.post-46627859725353201862019-07-02T12:46:50.660-07:002019-07-02T12:46:50.660-07:00Like, remember how many tries it took Grandmaster ...Like, remember how many tries it took Grandmaster Flash to get in back when no Hip Hop artists were getting ballots because there were no Hip Hop inductees?

So where are the electronic artists with their ballots? Oh, that's right, they mostly don't exist. Still, the Hall has at least passed out ballots to writers that understand the importance of Kraftwerk and the small amount of inductees who entered the business in the 80s onward that were influenced by them (U2, Radiohead, Madonna).

Anyway, tldr: The voting rolls are still way, way biased in favor of guitar acts. No question.AlbumsThatNeverWereFanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07833036291813955838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3760137241594753268.post-50319589657245767842019-07-02T12:44:28.498-07:002019-07-02T12:44:28.498-07:00No. Because that would only make sense if we thoug...No. Because that would only make sense if we thought that a voting body chock full of performers whose only music pre-dates Kraftwerk (and most of whom were in guitar groups) have any reason to consider Kraftwerk an influence. They don't.

The voting body has their clear biases. Look at how ridiculously long it took for Black Sabbath and The Stooges to make it in.

LL Cool J though IS rather marginal given that plenty of his genre's cohorts have basically had no problem getting in since Grandmaster Flash opened the floodgates.

I get the feeling that LL Cool J is the bottom of what COULD be inducted into the Rock Hall from Hip Hop. He must be getting a promising enough vote tally (Questlove said he "almost" made it in a couple years ago), that they're keeping him on the ballot. So, he's clearly a rung below the inductees that are already in, but a rung above the one-and-dones (Afrika Bambaataa, Eric B & Rakim) and most of the Hip Hop acts that have not yet made the ballot.AlbumsThatNeverWereFanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07833036291813955838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3760137241594753268.post-5642506859410843112019-07-02T12:40:53.090-07:002019-07-02T12:40:53.090-07:00No...because they got in via another avenue. I strongly considered it though. With all the buzz of people wanting an all-female ballot, plus Stevie Nicks becoming the first woman to be inducted, it was a very, very strong consideration to include her. If she gets nominated again, but somehow misses (though I don't see how that would be), then I'll include her the next time I update the list. For now, if I include her, then I'd probably also have to include King Curtis, Elmore James, Wanda Jackson, Freddie King, the "5" Royales, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, too.Philiphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08292012228944104037noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3760137241594753268.post-65221676557825983802019-07-01T13:06:04.783-07:002019-07-01T13:06:04.783-07:00You forgot Carole King. Problem solved.
